Double Duty
In the absence of Ms. King’s son she advocates for sons and daughters of other mothers found at the skate park. She was appointed to act on the youth’s behalf by caring for them in their troubles. A mother’s duty is never done when you’re giving back. Soon she will pass out fried chicken and Shasta sodas. They’ll ask for doubles. It gives the children a time to relate and laugh. When the Lord has your back there’s no time to get back at your enemies. Love serves.
After the criminal court proceeding ended family gathered around Ms. King. Once seated on a solid cement ledge, a walkway on Chestnut Place between West Ocean Blvd and Broadway, I’ve heard her say, “save the ones we got.” The trial continued beyond the courtroom in the form of double duty. At the worn greenbelt path these are the ones who are here. Seven to one ratio to teach rise over run. A rolling call. Some do not make it back by feeding on deviled detractions. At this stage the decay has started to spread within the thoughts, words and actions of the transport vessel. The Light shines to warn the impure about the currents dashing vessels against gigantic rock formations along the cliffs.
